The UN should not be drawn into “pseudo-peace” initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the United States.
“An urgent appeal is made to Guterres not to allow representatives of UN structures to be drawn into politicized pseudo-peace initiatives in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.” — said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement after the conversation.
Lavrov also noted that the leadership and staff of the UN Secretariat must adhere to “the principles of impartiality and equidistance, including in relation to the crimes of the kyiv regime.”
The Russian minister and the UN secretary general also discussed escalation in the Middle East, the United States’ violation of its obligations under the 1947 UN Headquarters Agreement regarding Russian diplomats, and cooperation between Russia and the world organization.
