Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, for a visit on Sunday evening, September 8, an RBC correspondent reports.
The head of the Russian diplomatic department will take part in the joint ministerial meeting of the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Strategic Dialogue;
The GCC was established on 25 May 1981 as a platform for interaction between states in the region on socio-economic and social issues. In addition to Saudi Arabia, the GCC includes Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The headquarters of the organisation is located in Riyadh.
In June, the head of the Saudi Foreign Ministry Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud visited Nizhny Novgorod to take part in the events of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which Riyadh joined in January 2024. In July, a telephone conversation took place between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
