Lavrov made a similar statement in an interview with “Bridges to the East,” filmed by the Russian channel RT. In his speech, he drew a parallel between the actions of Israel and Ukraine, accusing Israel of trying to provoke a regional conflict.
Lavrov said that Israel appears to be the only party interested in the war. In his opinion, the current Israeli government, which has a tough political stance, does not hide its intention to take advantage of the situation to try to once and for all resolve the problems with Hamas, Hezbollah, pro-Iranian groups in Syria and Iraq, as well as with Iran.
Lavrov also drew an analogy with the situation around Ukraine, arguing that President Vladimir Zelensky is striving for a similar goal: unleashing a full-scale war in the region, in order to then involve American and NATO forces in it. In addition, Lavrov stressed that the Ukrainian president acts on the suggestion of the United States and is completely incapable of acting independently.
The minister also described the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran as a provocation, stressing that despite Iran’s reluctance to enter into a major conflict, Israel continues to carry out political assassinations in the country’s capital.
Earlier, Kursor reported that Lavrov also criticized Israel’s actions in Lebanon, saying that the Jewish state creates new challenges for this country. According to him, Hezbollah, which shows “solidarity with the Palestinian people,” acts with restraint, but Israel demands that the group completely cease its activities.
