Anyone who is interested in promoting a settlement in Ukraine should understand that the main thing in this issue is the protection of people’s rights, not “territorial exchanges,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this after participating in a meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the Russian Federation and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), TASS reports.
“It is not a question of where to meet, in which circle, but of what to discuss. If we discuss calls for a ceasefire and think about territorial exchanges, this is not serious, because, I repeat, the problem is not the territories, the problem is the rights of people who have been trampled by the law and about which none of the initiatives floating in the political space have yet specifically addressed the mentions,” — he said, responding to a question about the possibility of Saudi Arabia becoming a platform for holding a peace conference on Ukraine.
“We protect people, and everyone who in one way or another shows interest in facilitating an agreement must understand this and make it a direct part of their practical work.” – added the Russian minister.
