Lavrov on the war in the Gaza Strip: it is necessary to continue fighting

Talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Yemeni counterpart Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani took place in Moscow. The main focus was on discussing ways to overcome the crisis in Yemen and restore the country’s unity. In addition, the ministers raised issues related to the situation in the Middle East.

Commenting on the war in the Gaza Strip, Lavrov said Moscow believes that “not everyone” needs a ceasefire.

“Moreover, some participants in this process simply need to continue fighting, to keep the situation in a violent state, counting on changes in the political landscape,” Lavrov said.

The Russian minister also indicated that Israel is awaiting the US presidential elections in the hope of reducing international pressure on negotiations with Hamas.

The Yemeni minister, in turn, expressed concern that the escalation of the conflict in Gaza would have a negative impact on the situation in the region, including Yemen, where the Houthis continue to fire on ships in the Red Sea. However, he added that their actions do not contribute to resolving the crisis in Gaza.

Earlier, Kursor reported that Lavrov called Netanyahu’s plans for the complete destruction of Hamas “unrealistic.”
