Lawyer Karim El Baqqali will request his transfer from prison. Currently, the pilot investigated for the death of the civil guards hit by a drug boat in Barbate is in pretrial detention in the prison of El Puerto de Santa María. He is being investigated by two crimes of murderfour attempts, six attempts, one smuggling and another criminal organization.
The lawyer who represents him, Jesus Casado, will ask to be transferred to one of the two prisons in the province of Malaga: Alhaurín de la Torre or Archidona. This is what he told Diario de Cádiz in an interview in which he defends that what happened in the port of Barbate on February 9 was a “reckless homicide.”
The reason is that Karim is going to become a father and in these prisons it is easier to receive family visitsincluding his partner who is pregnant. Before becoming a father, he wants to be in a prison closer to his family.
Karim has roots on the Costa del Sol. In fact, his criminal record links him to the province of Malaga since 2010. At that time, he was accused of a felony offense. resistance and disobedience in Vélez-Málaga while he was on board an unregistered boat with three other people. They were surprised by the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard on the high seas and fled. That day, they suddenly attacked the Civil Guard patrol boat.
In addition, on September 25, 2019, he was identified during an alleged refueling of a boat. That day, he was undocumented after disembarking at Sotogrande region (Cadiz), traveling on a ship from Malaga to Algeciras.
Almost a year later, on May 26, 2020, he was identified aboard a boat in the Port of Cabopino (Marbella). On January 18, 2021, he appeared before the police in Nerja (Málaga) regarding the hiding of 119 bales of hashish made in 2018.
A year before Barbate’s murder he was identified after following a boat that was going from Morocco to La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz). He was on board a vehicle registered in Morocco. Karim El Baqqali’s background also includes a violation of immigration rules in 2011.
