Lebanese PM thanks US for ending war

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel during a phone call with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday.

“The president of the United States, Joe Biden, called me, during the conversation we discussed the current situation. I thanked him for the United States’ support for Lebanon and the envoy’s efforts. Hochstein (AmosUnited States Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East)” — Mikati wrote on the social network X.

Earlier, Biden said the Israeli military and Hezbollah would cease hostilities early Wednesday morning.

The US president added that, according to the agreements, the Lebanese army will return to its positions in the border areas with Israel and Hezbollah will be denied access there. Israel will have to gradually withdraw its troops from Lebanon over the next 60 days.

According to him, the United States hopes that the ceasefire agreement will be indefinite.

Mikati stressed that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon is “a fundamental step towards establishing calm and stability in Lebanon” and will also help “establish stability in the region” and called on Israel to fully comply its terms.
