Lebanon pager explosions scare Kremlin

The head of the Russian FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, called the recent incidents with bombing of pagers and walkie-talkies of Hezbollah members in Lebanon a serious threat to the security of the CIS countries.

At a meeting of the council of heads of security agencies and intelligence services of the CIS, Bortnikov noted that modern portable electronics can be used not only to destabilize critical infrastructure, but also to assassinate government officials.

He stressed that the collection of data on the weaknesses of information systems and the hidden introduction of electronic “dialers” can become the basis of such attacks. At the same time, judging by the statements of Russian politicians, the Kremlin fears that the next explosions could come from representatives of the Russian government, and Russian propagandists say that Israel has probably already transferred this technology to the United States. And they believe that the United States shared the development with the Ukrainian special services.

As is known, in mid-September pagers belonging to members of Hezbollah were exploited in Lebanon and Syria. The group blamed Israel for these incidents. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned these explosions, calling them part of a hybrid war against Lebanon.

Previously, Kursor wrote that the media revealed what explosives were used to blow up Hezbollah’s pagers. According to the Daily Mail, the explosive PETN (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) was hidden in the batteries of radios used by Hezbollah militants. PETN is an extremely powerful explosive that is virtually undetectable by standard tests.
