Left accuses Macron of ‘electoral theft’ after appointing Michel Barnier as French Prime Minister

The Conservative Michel Barnierformer minister and former European Commissioner, was appointed this Thursday Prime Minister of France by the president Emmanuel Macronas announced by the Elysée.

Barnier, who was the European Union’s Brexit negotiator, is taking on the task of forming the new government. He is a politician of a marked conservative profilewhich greatly embarrassed the French left.

Jean-Luc Mélenchonleader of the progressive formation La Francia Insumisa, assures that “They stole the elections from the French“, since the left-wing coalition won the legislative elections.

Mélenchon warned Barnier that he would not give him parliamentary support and, consequently, will not have the majority in the National Assembly.
