Legendary Gandalf could return to screens: ‘I won’t let anyone wear a pointy hat and beard’

British actor Ian McKellen may reprise his role as Gandalf in the spin-off series “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” based on the books by John Tolkien.

Oku.AzAccording to TASS, the famous actor made a statement about this in one of his interviews.

The 85-year-old actor advised the filmmakers to hurry up, noting that his participation in the new film depends on his health: the functioning of his legs, lungs and brain.

“If I can do it myself, I won’t allow anyone to wear a pointy hat and beard,” he stressed.

It should be noted that the film is scheduled for release in 2026.

Recall that McKellen during a theatrical performance in London in June fell off the stage. After that, doubts arose as to whether he would be able to continue his acting career. He said that he will recover by the end of the year and hopes to take part in new projects in the future.

McKellen is a Golden Globe winner. He received this award for his role as Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, in the American film “Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny” (1996). He was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and for Hollywood director James Whale in God and the Monsters (1998).

McKellen has received seven British Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards and the American Tony Award. In 1991, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the theatre.
