Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and director of the Public Union IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Protection) Leyla Aliyeva On November 15, he spoke at the plenary meeting organized by the “Ecumene” Global Forum within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Oku.Az reports that Leyla Aliyeva, speaking about the role of COP29 organized by our country in solving global environmental problems, expressed her conviction that the decisions made will contribute to strengthening international solidarity for the sake of a sustainable future.
In her speech, Leyla Aliyeva addressed several points related to the sustainable management of water resources in Azerbaijan. The participants in the plenary session were informed about a series of measures implemented by our country, including the construction of 10 water tanks planned for the coming years.
Noting that the water level in the Caspian Sea has decreased in recent years, the founder and director of IDEA Public Union emphasized the importance of protecting biodiversity in the Caspian Sea. At the same time, the Caspian seal population was reported to have decreased more than 6 times compared to the beginning of the 20th century. Leyla Aliyeva noted that within the framework of cooperation with the “Blue Marine Foundation” organization, the Kyzylagac National Park was selected as the first protected coastal zone in the Caspian Sea.
In addition, Leyla Aliyeva in her speech referred to the measures taken by IDEA Public Union in the sense of protection of water resources. It was reported that within the framework of the “Rich Basins” project, millions of baby fish of various species were released in several hydrographic basins located in the country. As a result of the “One Drop” project, the public was widely informed about the importance of efficient water use.
It should be noted that the plenary session included Selwyn Charles Hart, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition, Ramon Pix-Madruga, Director of the Center for World Economic Analysis, Eric Solheim, former Executive Director of the UN Medium Environment, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Ruslan Edelgeriyev, Special Representative of the President for Climate Issues, Khadijat Kadyrova, First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President and the Government of the Republic Chechena, and Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chairman of the Central Commission The Council of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation participated.
