Liam Lawson reveals his parents’ sacrifices to get to F1: ‘They sold their house…’

It’s official now. Liam Lawson takes Daniel Ricciardo’s seat at Racing Bulls until the end of the season. It wasn’t easy at all, but the pilot made his childhood dream come true, for which his family sacrificed so much. So much so that they sold their house to finance their careers.

He told this on the team’s ‘Talking Bull’ podcast: “My parents sold their house so I could continue running.. It’s incredible. They gave everything so that I could race, even in karts, because they are very expensive…”.

“My parents and my whole family gave a lot, especially in the first years with karts”declares Yuki Tsunoda’s new partner.

He focused exclusively on competition and even dropped out of school. All for the dream of Formula 1: “I didn’t finish high school or anything like that. Honestly, I was excited to be able to fight for my dream. And there are always difficult moments , but I never wondered if that was the case.” too difficult and if I wanted to go home.”

He was Helmut Markoadvise Red Bull, the one who opted for him the most. And Liam knows he has a great opportunity in his hands to show that in the future he can become a driver for the energy drink team.

“Being from New Zealand, trying to get money to compete overseas is very, very difficult. So among a group of incredible people who supported me, sponsors and investors, we put the structure in place to get enough money to go to Europe and do a full season and try to convince a junior team to sign me, because without that there was no chance of getting into Formula 1,” Lawson explains.

He already showed signs of his quality last year when Ricciardo suffered a wrist injury and Liam was promoted. And now the Racing Bulls trust him to finish the season.
