liberalize land, help with purchases, remove obstacles and evict squatters

Alberto Nuñez Feijóo announced this Friday that the PP would present its comprehensive housing plan throughout the month of October, as an alternative to the government’s “failed” policies.

During his speech at the La Toja Forum, Feijóo outlined the broad outlines of his proposal, which includes measures to mobilize land, remove obstacles and simplify administrative procedures, financial aid for purchase and rental, legal security and legal instruments to expel to the squatters.

The government has failed, the events must stop“, proclaimed Feijóo, who indicated that the price of rentals has increased by 13% since the entry into force of the housing law promoted by the government.

“We have failed the young people”

The leader of the PP demanded “the protection of those who comply [la ley]whether they are owner, tenant, buyer or vulnerable” and “no protection for those squatter illegally.”

And he highlighted the ideological bias that he said contributed to the failure of the government’s measures: “Criminalization of private property is a serious mistake“, he warned, “we must pursue those who commit crimes, not those who comply with them.”

Feijóo deplored that the rise in real estate market prices particularly penalizes young people, hampering their plans to emancipate themselves and start a family: “We are letting down today’s young people.”

This is not the only warning he issued in his speech on the situation of young people, who have lost 20% of their purchasing power since the financial crisis, he added: “they do not expect have a stable job before At 40, they pass a casting to be able to access rental accommodation. Bringing a child into the world is heroic,” he added.

Feijóo also warned that today’s young people are “at the mercy of the siren songs of anti-system options”, because democracy fails to address many of their problems, such as the precariousness of employment or lack of housing.

Among the audience attending Feijóo’s speech were the President-elect of the European Council, Antonio Costaand the winner of the Venezuelan elections, Edmundo González.

Addressing him. Feijóo declared himself a “Venezuelan” and stressed that “any people who fight for freedom deserve to be considered one of us.”

The PP leader also alluded, in a thinly veiled manner, to the controversy surrounding the constant demands of the new president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, for Spain to apologize for the conquest of America.

On the other hand, Feijóo expressed his pride in this chapter of Spanish history, which “cannot be affected by anachronistic black legends or artificial feuds.”

“As a Spaniard,” he added, “I claim the history that our ancestors wrote in America. I am proud of our King, who gives prestige and stability to Spain throughout the world. And I refuse to apply value judgments 500 years late,” he concluded.
