A rare natural phenomenon called “upward lightning” has occurred at the Agua volcano in Guatemala. This is a rare type of lightning that strikes from the ground towards the clouds instead of from the clouds towards the ground. Normally, these lightning bolts strike tall objects such as skyscrapers, mountains or volcanoes.
Oku.AzAccording to , the photos of the “light show” quickly spread on social media and caused admiration among users.
Note that upward lightning makes up less than 5% of all lightning and remains a poorly studied phenomenon. Scientists believe that it forms when the electric field at the Earth’s surface is stronger than that of the storm cloud. This can occur as a result of the build-up of positive charges on the ground during a storm.
It should be noted that the 3,760-meter-high Agua volcano is one of three volcanoes surrounding Antigua-Guatemala, the former capital of Guatemala.
