The Francisco Nieva Municipal Auditorium in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real) was the scene this Friday of institutional event on the occasion of Education Day 2024where the Government of Castile-La Mancha awarded a total of 26 awards among educational centers, students, teachers, administrative staff and entities, as well as a special mention on the occasion of the Teaching day.
During this event punctuated by musical performances, they were the president of Castile-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; the second vice-president of the Council, José Manuel Caballero; the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Amador Pastor; the Council delegate in Ciudad Real, Blanca Fernández; and the mayor of Valdepeñas, Jesús Martín, among other authorities.
For his part, García-Page praised ‘proactive and innovative attitude’ that many managers and many teachers have done so, because he believes that education should not be exercised as “a routine”, but as “constant learning also from the teacher himself and by doing it in community”.
According to the regional president, “it is very important that education is not a sealed compartment, nor a bowl to be filled”, but rather that it is a social element. But what is really important – he added – is that Education is not just the responsibility of teachers, but rather “we see it as a community”.
“We can’t do without community education, what it means to socialize, what it means to meet, what it means to share. The truth is that building community is the first lesson, which is also the one that will accompany us throughout our lives,” he said.
During his speech, García-Page declared that “to educate, you must have a vocation” and you must “put your soul into it”. “There have been times in history when the figure of the teacher was clearer for everyone to see. Today, society has become more complex and the figure of the teacher needs greater protection.
Continuing this argument, the regional president stated that “Today, our societies are very complicated, very complexinterfered with by a multitude of permanent and very dynamic messages.” And this means, he emphasized, that the work of the teacher requires not only a vocation to begin and a soul to continue, but also a lot of determination and a lot support.
Likewise, he emphasized that in Castile-La Mancha “we can boast of having a good educational system”, because “everything can be improved”. He also showed optimism towards current generations, emphasizing how “gratifying” it is to see the behavior of today’s young people when, for example, with the DANA of Valencia, they have taken their backpack and went to clean up.

Finally, the regional president assured that education is like a flower that “we must continue to water it, to cultivate it, sometimes even probably to prune it”. Solidarity with those affected by DANA
The educational advisor took the opportunity to express solidarity with those affected by DANA, emphasizing actions to facilitate educational continuity in Mira and Letur, as well as solidarity on the ground with those affected in Valencia.
The pastor thanked the winners for their work. “It was very difficult to select names from a very extensive educational community, but it is true that they made the task very easy because their action sets them apart,” said Pastor.

“On teaching day, education day, we celebrate education, we celebrate progress, we celebrate a solid, inclusive, equitable educational project that leaves no one behind, but above all and by extension we celebrate life,” he concluded.

For his part, the mayor of Valdepeñas emphasized today that education “is a tool that must be used from the independence of the intellect so as not to restrict the freedom and understanding of judgment of our sons and daughters.”
In this sense, he had words to recall the playwright of Valdepeñero Francisco Nieva, “laureate prince of Asturias, candidate for the Nobel Prize and the greatest playwright of Spanish literature of the last third of the 20th century, who, when he entered the Royal Academy of Language He did it with a speech which said that speech is the first and last freedom of man. “He who works for the word works to give wings to freedom.”
This is why he asked the educational community “to speak with our students so that they have freedom of judgment to purge our errors and, as far as possible, create a better axis of transmission than the one we” would have could have had. “

During this gala, the diocesan school of Albacete was rewarded for its integrative educational project; at the IES “Bernardo Balbuena”, with 90 years of history and being an educational and cultural reference in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real); to the CRA “Camino Real” of Levante, located in Graja de Iniesta (Cuenca), for its Reading Plan; the CEIP “Clara Sánchez” of Galapagos in Guadalajara, which stands out for its solid integration of health education in its educational project and the CEIP “Fray Hernando” of Talavera (Toledo) for having advanced in the inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorder (TORCH).
Concerning the category of teachers, the Government recognized Javier Julián Gil Tévar, from the CEIP ‘Our Lady of the Assumption’ of Letur (Albacete), which was an example of dedication and commitment in critical moments that the last DANA brought to the municipality; to Hernán Milla González, professor at the Professional Conservatory of Music Marcos Redondo of Ciudad Real, who has been recognized not only for his exceptional musical talent, but also for his ability to inspire new generations; to Juan José Sanz Albuer, from the IES ‘Fernando de los Ríos’ of Quintanar del Rey (Cuenca), for his exceptional educational work in the professional family of Installation and Maintenance, particularly in the Basic Diploma of “Manufacturing and Maintenance” ; Laura Quiles Cerdera, head of the Educational Office of the Museum of Guadalajara, who transformed the educational approach of the museum, opening it significantly to the community and fulfilling its function of cultural dissemination, and Jesús García Novillo, director of the IES “Azarquiel” in Toledo, who distinguished himself with a remarkable career in school administration.
The recognized students were Inés Sánchez Bleda, student of the CEIP “Our Lady of the Rosary” in Hellín de Albacetefor his exceptional academic career and his commitment to the 2030 Agenda; as well as Daniela Hernán Merchán, student at the IES “Pedro Álvarez Sotomayor” in Manzanares (Ciudad Real), who is an example of improvement. Despite bilateral deafness, his merits extend beyond academics, having achieved exceptional achievements in cinema and sport.
