At least nine people were killed and more than 2,800 injured in Lebanon on Tuesday, September 17, after pagers exploded in several regions of the country in the early afternoon, according to a report released by the Ministry of Health.
Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shiite movement, announced a few hours later that some of its members equipped with pagers had been injured. According to a source close to Hezbollah quoted by Agence France-Presse, a “large number” Among the victims are members of the pro-Iranian movement.
Pager (pager (in English) are rudimentary communication devices. Very popular in the 1990s, before the arrival of the mobile phone, they allowed the reception of short alert messages or texts, and in certain cases, the sending of them. Until very recently, they were still widely used in British hospitals. Operating on battery or rechargeable battery, these small devices have a long battery life.
