Liverpool legend dies – Oxu.az

Former Liverpool captain Ron Yates has passed away at the age of 86.

Oku.Az reports that the English football club’s website has published information about this.

In recent years, Yates suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

Yates played for Liverpool from 1961 to 1971. He made 454 appearances for the team and captained over 400 matches. Only Steven Gerrard has played more games as captain in Liverpool’s history.

With Liverpool, Yates won a double English championship (1963/64, 1965/66), a cup (1964/65) and three Super Cups (1964, 1965, 1966).

The defender ended his career in 1977. In 1986, Yates returned to Liverpool as head scout and worked there until 2006.
