It was in 2000 that the MTV channel created this award for the best Spanish artist as part of its Europe Music Awards, which also distinguish the favorite musical personalities of the public from other countries in which it is present. In addition to these two EMAs, Rosalía has four other Video Music Awards (VMA), also awarded each year by the MTV network, but during a gala that takes place in the United States.

A gala in Manchester without Manchester artists

In a big night for women in terms of awards, including Rosalía, with Taylor Swift once again at the helm, absences like hers and even more so those of such iconic Manchester bands as Oasis have weakened the relevance of early Europe Music Awards (EMAs) held in the cradle of this group which promoted what we call britpop.

During the ceremony held this Sunday at Co-Op Live in Manchester, a few surprises were expected from the Gallaghers after confirming their long-awaited reunion on stage, notably when Liam received the award for best rock artist. Brothers. Not a single mention was made in the program.

There is at least room for an involuntary absentee, since Liam Payne, the former member of One Direction who died a few weeks ago in Buenos Aires after falling from the third floor of his hotel, received the moving memory of this musical party in which he participated in 2017 as a solo artist. “He was always the first to offer his help,” remembers very enthusiastic Rita Ora, host of this event for the third time.
