López Miras asks the government to reduce VAT from 10% to 4% when purchasing the first housing for young people

“Reduce VAT from 10% to 4% for the purchase of your first home.” This is the proposal that the Murcian president, Fernando López Miras, publicly transmitted to the Central Executive, taking advantage of his presence at a meeting with members of the Association of Real Estate Developers of the Region of Murcia (Apirm).

The regional president insisted that ““We must change” the current housing law“because far from opening the market and promoting access to families, it imposes numerous restrictions.” According to the popular López Miras, access to first housing is already “one of the main social problems we have in Spain”. In fact, Eurostat already sets the age of emancipation above 30 years.

It is for this reason that on several occasions the head of the Executive of Murcia has expressed the importance of addressing this issue with the central government and has argued that will discuss this issue during the reception he will have with Pedro Sánchez -next Friday, October 4-.

López Miras recalls that at the San Esteban Palace they are aware of the difficulty young people face in accessing housing and are promoting policies to help them: “Nearly 600 young people have already benefited from Youth Sponsorship of the Region of Murcia to buy your first home.

Such a measure was described by the Murcian president as “pioneer in Spain”so that young people in their community can “afford the down payment” on their first home.

The aforementioned plan offers a guarantee of 20% of the estimated value of the property, so that the financial institution can finance up to 100% of the amount. According to López Miras, the beneficiaries of this measure “obtained guarantees with an average amount of more than 19,000 euros each, and mortgage loans worth 57.1 million euros were granted.”

The Murcian President – in a press release published by the San Esteban Palace – recalls that during the last Government Council, the Youth Guarantee Line, intended for those under 40, was expanded “with an additional provision of 5.4 million euros. This increase will allow 300 additional young people to finance the purchase of their first accommodation, according to calculations by the regional government.

These 5.4 million are added to the 10.8 million initial credit already exhausted, so that the overall amount allocated by the Government of Murcia amounts to 16.2 million euros. López Mira bets on collaborate with the Association of Real Estate Developers of Murcia: “Thanks to their collaboration, we have modified the sheltered housing model of the Region of Murcia in 2021, to facilitate access to more families. We are taking steps and we must do much more.”
