López Miras demands from Pedro Sánchez a leveling fund for Murcia and is open to debt cancellation

The president of the Government of Murcia, the “popular” Fernando López Miras, demanded that the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, level the resources of the underfinanced communities, including the Region, through a transition fund while she is reforming. the system, while being favorable to the examination of debt cancellation at the negotiating table to renew the financing model.

This is how the Murcian president spoke during the press conference that followed the bilateral meeting he held this Friday with the head of the Executive at the Palacio de la Moncloa, during which, as he revealed it, he dedicated a large part of their dialogue to talk about regional financing and the agreement between PSC and ERC for an economic agreement in Catalonia.

In this context, López Miras regretted that Murcia has been the most underfunded community since 2009, which is why he demanded that Sánchez begins to equalize these resources with all regions while the financing model is reformed.

As detailed, This transitional fund for the entire legislature would be estimated at 2.340 million euros to bring Murcia in line with the average of the state as a whole in terms of financing, although he believes that the body responsible for dealing with this issue is the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council.

Criticisms of the Catalan quota

Regardless, López Miras began his speech at the Moncloa Palace by explaining that he had expressed to Sánchez his rejection of the singular financing for Catalonia, calling it a “separatist quota”and alerting you that this economic concert will have an impact on interterritorial solidarity.

In this regard, the Murcian president said that Sánchez assured him that the tax agreement with the ERC did not violate the principle of solidarity, although López Miras disagreed with this statement by the Head of Executive.

As all regional presidents of the PP have done, López Miras also demanded from Sánchez that the reform of regional financing must be addressed multilaterallywhich, according to the Murcian president, was guaranteed by Sánchez, who chose to address the renewal of the model within the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council.

According to López Miras, Sánchez also shared the need to face the renewal of the regional financing model.

Debt forgiveness

When asked if he would accept the debt cancellation as the Sánchez government offers to the communities, López Miras believes that this deficit reduction can be addressed, but inside the negotiating table reform the regional financing model.

However, López Miras believes that debt cancellation “is not the solution to underfinancing.” In fact, he assured that a large part of the debt is attributable to this lower level of resources on the part of Murcia.

“We can agree to cancel the debt and the next day we will continue with fewer resources than the rest of the Spaniards,” said López Miras.
