Lukashenko made an unexpected proposal for the production of potassium fertilizers in Belarus

In Belarus it is necessary to reduce the production of potassium fertilizers. This was announced by Alexander Lukashenko today, November 4, when approving the appointment of Andrei Rybakov as General Director of OJSC Belaruskali.

“I would ask you to resolve (I have not set this task before) the question of who this is needed with (especially the Russians), in relation to production. I don’t remember those prices in history: very low prices for potassium fertilizers, although the miners’ work is not easy. Maybe we should talk to the Russians, consult and reduce the production of potassium fertilizers by 10, maybe 11 percent.” – said.

According to the Belarusian leader, “it is not only that there will be a shortage in the market, but that everyone will understand that these are expensive products and that adequate amounts must be paid for them.” At the same time, he noted that Belarus has “a sea of requests” for potassium and joint production of fertilizers.

“Yes, today Western countries are blocking the supply of potassium fertilizers. But I have many requests. I will not name these states that say: “Let’s make and sell complex and mixed fertilizers together.” We have to do it: we will supply potassium somewhere, there is a plant on the border, we mix fertilizers and immediately sell them together abroad. The demand is enormous: there will always be a great demand for food, but without mineral fertilizers, what kind of food is there? Therefore, we must reach out to the states with which we can produce these fertilizers.” – said Lukashenko.

In addition, he expressed his hope that the new director of Belaruskali will solve the problems that the company has.

“That’s why I don’t set a task for myself. I know that the costs there are quite high and we must reduce them. I’m sure you know how to reduce it. And the added value, also per employee, must increase worldwide. And in subordinate organizations it is necessary to restore order, so that they work and do not run after the head of Belarus and ask for money. Especially in the agricultural sector.” – noted Lukashenko.

Let us remember that the production of potash fertilizers is one of the main components of the Belarusian economy. Due to the sanctions imposed on Belarus, work in this regard has deteriorated noticeably in recent years. Minsk was forced to look for new markets, in which the selling prices of products fell sharply.
