Lukashenko spoke out in favor of expanding the CIS

It would be good if Georgia returned to the CIS. This was announced today, October 8, by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at the Commonwealth Heads Summit held in Moscow.

“It would be very good if Georgia returned to our family, Moldova resumed its full participation, the Ukrainian authorities regained their senses, in whose restoration of normal life we will have to participate. I am absolutely sure that this will happen. “It’s just a matter of time.” – said.

Lukashenko also emphasized that countries must value what they have in the Commonwealth.

“All those who have not seceded from our Commonwealth are showing decent results today. “They have not lost control of their country and continue to be full subjects of international relations.” – the Belarusian leader stressed.

In addition, the President of Belarus suggested thinking about how to more effectively use the potential of regional integration.

“The general objective is clear. We need a strong union of strong and economically self-sufficient sovereign states. We constantly talk about equal conditions and respect for national interests. “A lot has already been done, but there is still room for improvement.” – stated the Belarusian leader.

In this sense, he outlined several directions in this regard. In his words, it is necessary to strengthen the international status of the CIS and unite all voices into one, as well as counteract the inculcation of foreign extremist ideologies and attempts to involve citizens in illegal activities, including terrorist ones. In addition, Lukashenko considers it necessary to “achieve technological sovereignty in the CIS space” and “cultivate the Commonwealth value system.”

Let us remember that the Commonwealth of Independent States was formed in 1991 among the republics of the former USSR, with the exception of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Georgia. In November 2022, Moldova suspended its participation in CIS meetings and in 2023 began the process of leaving the Commonwealth. Since 2014, Ukraine began the process of ending its participation in the CIS structures and has now completely severed all relations with them.
