French President Emmanuel Macron called on newly elected US President Donald Trump to seek concessions from Russia in the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal on November 8, citing sources.
“In a 25-minute call on Wednesday, Macron pressed Trump to ensure that any diplomacy with Russia over Ukraine results in real concessions from the Kremlin.” – says the publication.
The publication’s interlocutors also clarified that Trump himself, when calling European leaders, behaved evasive on the Ukrainian issue, in particular, he listened more and asked questions.
Previously, on November 7, The Wall Street Journal wrote that Trump’s team is already discussing a new plan to end the conflict in Ukraine. It includes several main points, according to which the front line is frozen and a demilitarized zone is declared along it. Furthermore, Ukraine must refuse to join NATO for at least another 20 years.
Previously, on November 6, it was learned that Macron had held “very good negotiations” with Trump, who won the US presidential election. It was clarified that during a 25-minute telephone conversation the politicians discussed the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. At the same time, Macron and Trump agreed to “work for the return of peace and stability” in the context of international crises, Izvestia clarifies.
