Macron calls to stop arms deliveries to Israel in Gaza conflict

French President Emmanuel Macron called on the international community to stop supplying Israel with the weapons used to attack the Gaza Strip, like his country, and affirmed that “we do not fight terrorism by sacrificing the population civil”.

“I think that today, the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop sending weapons [a Israel] lead the fighting in Gaza. France does not do it,” Macron said in an interview broadcast this Saturday on France Inter radio.

Macron did not mention the countries that must stop selling arms to the Jewish state, but the United States appears, by far, to be the main supplier. The French president warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ignored part of the international community.

“I think we are not being listened to. I have already said this to Prime Minister Netayahu and I think it is a mistake, also a mistake for the security of Israel, because we see in public opinion in the region a resentment that is being born.” he added.

The president believes that the objective is to “avoid an escalation” in the region and once again insisted that “Lebanon cannot become a new Gaza”.
