Madrid cemeteries allow access to pets

The access of domestic animals to the network of municipal cemeteries is one of the most notable novelties of the modification of the Regulations and the offer of funeral services that the Madrid City Council approved this Thursday during the Government Meeting.

As municipal sources explain, the authorized access of pets to funeral areas must always be controlled by means of a rope or chain. Their owners will be responsible for any personal or material damage they may cause. This point was submitted to the popular consultation of citizens, in favor of the entry of animals into cemeteries.

The Council affirms that this entire package of measures aims to generate greater legal certainty. In essence, what has been submitted for approval represents an effort to bring together, in a single regulatory text, the regulations that exist to date on these services. They maintain from the City Council that with this action, unique action protocols are promoted while advancing transparency so that citizens do not get lost in a legislative morning.

This improvement provides, for example, the simplification of the relevant administrative procedures so that relatives of holders of administrative concessions of funeral units of the deceased may, provisionally, have the capacity to transmit said property.

Another novelty is that the protection of the most disadvantaged citizen is also addressed. To this end, the new regulation provides for free social funeral services, which, approved in 2005, can be revised in the event of a lack of documents by means of a responsible declaration. This, as well as the possibility for relatives to request the celebration of the funeral wake, which was not previously allowed.

Given the artistic and iconographic value of Madrid’s cemeteries, any photographic or cinematographic project, as well as cultural or educational visits, must be commissioned and authorized by the code stipulated by the Municipal Company of Funeral Services and Cemeteries of Madrid (SFM).

All of this funeral information is pending processing of allegations within 30 calendar days.
