Madrid City Hall will invest three million to reform the square

Madrid’s Tirso de Molina Square will be renovated. This was explained on Thursday by the vice-mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, during the press conference after the government meeting, where she clarified that the initiative would be carried out in the square itself, as well as Doctor Cortezo, Conde de Romanones, Colegiata and Concepción Jerónima streets.

The City Council of José Luis Martínez-Almeida wants to make this environment “a more habitable space”. The most important intervention will consist of the complete restoration of Tirso de Molina square, while the renovation of the adjacent streets will be carried out.

All this, with the aim of removing existing architectural barriers, guaranteeing accessibility, eliminate dead ends and dangerous spacesrenew street furniture and children’s games and improve the environment through more green spaces and new landscaping.

Madrid City Hall has the “need” to recover the area of ​​the square itself as “a safe and ecologically suitable public space for the stay of residents and visitors”, for which it will reorganize the area with a “careful” choice . sidewalks, landscaping, lighting and street furniture.

In this sense, public lighting will be completely renewed, replacing the current obsolete luminaires with new ones with maximum energy efficiency. The garden areas will also be expanded and improved and the irrigation network will be completely renewed.. Likewise, the prefabricated paving stones will be replaced with granite paving stones and all the sanitation and drainage systems of the square will be improved to avoid leaks in the metro station.

New bus stops

On the other hand, the redevelopment of the surrounding streets will make it possible to organize mobility and create new bus stops. to decongest the places of Tirso de Molina and Jacinto Benavente.

Loading and unloading spaces, resident parking as well as the location of various municipal services such as waste recycling containers, bicycle stations and other elements of urban furniture will also be developed. In these streets, the pavement of the sidewalks, which is quite deteriorated, will be renewed and their width will be increased to provide more space for pedestrians, in addition to renewing the roads.

Finally, this intervention will include the planting of new trees. More precisely, in overall performance, 46 trees and more than 2,500 shrubs will be planted.
