Madrid court refuses to file charges against Begoña Gómez but leaves Air Europa investigation aside

The Madrid Provincial Court ordered Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to delimit the investigation he is leading against Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, for alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in the business world.

In an order collected by Europa Press, the magistrates of Section 23 specified that the investigation by the Court of Instruction Number 41 of Madrid must leave aside the blockage linked to Globalia and the rescue of Air Europa, the judge cannot so continue the investigation. the chair of the Complutense University of Madrid and the suspicious contracts.

The Provincial Court responded to the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, which presented an appeal in which it requested that the subject of the procedure be clarified considering that the judge was leading a “general case”.

The Provincial Court was scheduled to meet on September 30, but on the same day the judges realized that they had not heard Begoña Gómez’s appeal and therefore suspended the deliberations. While it was expected that the discussions would not resume for “3 or 4 weeks”, they finally deliberated on Monday after receiving the “complete testimony” of the case from the court.

In addition to studying the appeal of the prosecution, the magistrates also deliberated on the appeal of Gómez’s defense – exercised by the former socialist minister Antonio Camacho -, who requested the archiving of the file after understanding that Peinado conducted a “universal investigation”. “.

The defense was based on the order in which the judge indicated that he was investigating everything that Gómez had done since her husband was president of the government, with the sole exception that these facts were included in the initial complaint of Manos Liminas and those which fall under the exclusive competence of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The magistrates rejected the appeal.

It should be remembered that in addition to what was resolved by the Provincial Court this Monday, the judge has a new complaint on the table where Sánchez’s wife is accused of having appropriated software developed by the UCM.
