Madrid police file complaint against officer who reported Más Madrid banner with number of deaths in residences

The Internal Affairs of the Municipal Police of Madrid opened a file against the agent who reported, through a non-existent article, the web Más Madrid which contained the number of deaths in Madrid residences during the pandemic, as a complaint against the health protocols of the regional government of the time.

The officer filed the complaint as an official representationalthough it was a non-existent article of the ordinance that regulates this type of banners and banners, usually advertising on the exterior of buildings.

The number 7,291 appeared on the banner along with the phrases “No, they were not going to die the same” and “500 days since the protocols of shame.” 7,291 people died in residences. 0 explanations”. Home Affairs has now opened a case for this action.

In the absence of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and the municipal police chief and vice mayor, Inma Sanz, both outside the city, the town planning delegate, environment and mobility, Borja Carabante, defended that “we will have to comply with what the Office of Internal Affairs says” and called “clarify this situation” via this file.

“Partisan” and “arbitrary” action

More Madrid criticized the police officer for “inventing” the article for which he denounced “a consciousness of impunity” based on “defend the interests of the PP” thinking that he could unilaterally decide which messages will be expressed in the streets of Madrid and which messages will not be expressed in the streets of Madrid.

He added that it was a “partisan” action and compared this case with that of the so-called “patriotic police” of the PP at the national level. “What they cannot do is use the municipal police, the agents that all Madrid residents pay, for the services and interests of the Popular Party. We are therefore satisfied with the news of the opening of the disciplinary file , but since then we are neither calm nor satisfied with it,” he said.

He also asked that the deputy mayor assume “his responsibilities as head of the Municipal Police” and that “she apologizes to the city of Madrid as a whole, because an action by the municipal police, which she directs, was arbitrary, partisan and had the clear objective of restricting freedom of expression.”

Carabante also responded that Más Madrid is “hasty in his opinions”, because he said that “instructions had been given to the police to impose a fine”, even though this police officer “acted ex officio” and, therefore , “under his responsibility”. . He also clarified that there is no “political responsibility” when “the action is that of a municipal police officer who acts ex officio”.
