The field of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility has carried out a study in which it concludes that by applying the regional housing law which allows the construction of apartments with a certain form of public protection on land intended for offices, they can be built in the capital near 7,500 new homes in the first phase and up to 20,000 if we add new developments in the southwest.
By area, the most beneficiary district would be Vegetablewhere the change in land use would allow construction 3,725 propertiesas reported today to the Government Council by the regional delegate, Borja Carabante. It is closely followed by Vicálvaro, with 2,092 apartments, and Villa de Vallecas, with 1,032. This measure will also affect, to a lesser extent, Arganzuela (196 housing units), Retiro (130), San Blas (121), Villaverde (90) and Barajas (42) and Moncloa-Aravaca (36).
The Community of Madrid approved in June this modification of its legislation aimed at freeing 1.8 million square meters of premises and transforming them into 20,000 new homes throughout the region. Then, he gave municipal councils a four-month period to decide on the terms of application. In the capital, town planning will submit its plan to the October plenary session.
