Madrid will seek financial compensation if Muface is ultimately dismantled

The possibility that Muface would stop working and force hundreds of thousands of civil servants and their families into the public health system worries the regional government of Madrid, due to the “very high costs” that this would entail and its impact on quality care. service. This was recognized on Wednesday by the Minister of the Presidency and spokesperson for the regional executive, Miguel Ángel García, who announced that if this dismantling was finally carried out, the government of Díaz Ayuso would calculate the costs generated and claim them from the government central.

Negotiations between insurance companies and the Ministries of Public Administration and Health have been going on for months, in order to keep Muface in business. But there is no equality of criteria between the two ministries: the first defends its continuity, and the second is in favor of it ceasing to function and that civil servants benefit from public care.

But if this happens, it will mean the sudden incorporation of 1.5 million civil servants and their families throughout Spain into the public system, and in Madrid more than 250,000 people will suddenly be included in this system. Something that, García emphasizes, would have “very high costs for the Community of Madrid, and we hope to be compensated.”

Concretely, taking this decision would have a direct impact on the functioning of the Madrid health system, because “it will saturate our health system”, and will have an impact on waiting lists and the treatment of all users, says the advisor.

Therefore, the first thing they expect is “for the Ministries of Health and Civil Service to reach an agreement and for Muface to continue functioning: for reason to prevail and indoctrination to be put aside.”

But if this does not happen, “if we do not achieve a positive result, the autonomous communities responsible for health, that is to say all of us, will logically have to be compensated”.

In this case, he added, “we will calculate and request all the resources necessary for this purpose.”
