Magic Johnson appeals to African-American men in the United States: “Elect Kamala Harris”

Former basketball player Magic Johnson called on African-American men this Friday to vote for the Democratic candidate for the White House, Vice-President Kamala Harris.

“Kamala’s opponent (former President Donald Trump) promised a lot of things to the black community last time, things he didn’t keep. We need to make sure black men understand that” Johnson said at a Harris rally in Flint, Michigan.

“That’s why I’m here: to make sure that black men understand the importance of getting out to vote and then vote for the next president of the United States“, added the renowned athlete.

Although the African-American community has traditionally overwhelmingly supported Democrats, some polls indicate that Trump is managing to attract some of the male vote.

You have to call people. We must knock on doors. Before and after going to church, not during, but before and after,” said the winner of five NBA rings with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Originally from Michigan, Johnson is politically active and has supported both current President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) in previous cycles.

Regarding Harris, Johnson assured that it was an “intelligent, strong and passionate” candidate.

“No one will work harder than her. She is committed to you, to the people of the United States, to the people of Michigan. She will be everyone’s president,” Johnson said.

Furthermore, the former basketball player stressed that 2024 “is the year of the woman”.

“We just saw what Mexico did by electing (Claudia Sheinbaum) its first president. You know where I’m going with this. Let’s make sure that in the United States we elect our first president: Kamala Harris,” he said. he added.

32 days before the November 5 elections, Harris campaign steps on the gas in a handful of states that, like Michiganare called upon to decide the elections.

Before the Flint rally, the vice president participated in another campaign event with workers and union activists in Detroit and was also scheduled to meet with leaders of Michigan’s large Arab community, disenchanted with their government for its support of Israel and the war in Gaza.
