Daniel Sancho was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Edwin Arrieta in Thailand, but could serve part of his sentence in Spain. The magistrate Joaquim Boschmember of Judges for Democracy, explains that “there is a cooperation agreement on the execution of criminal sentences, from 1983, between Thailand and Spain that allows part of the sentences to be served in our country, but sets at least two conditions.” As Bosch lists:
- That the compensation corresponding to the private accusation has been paid (in this case it would be 107,000 euros)
- That the minimum sentence was served in Tailancia
In Thailand, the magistrate explains, life sentence can be revised from 8 years in prisonIt would therefore be from there that the transfer could be requested, but “it would not be automatic and would ultimately depend on the decision of the Thai authorities”.
