MAIN ERROR when measuring pressure

People make a number of mistakes when measuring blood pressure.

Oku.AzAccording to information published by Gazeta.ru, American researchers from the Johns Hopkins Medical Center explained this.

According to them, the position of the hand when measuring blood pressure can significantly affect the results. This has been demonstrated by experiments. It turned out that to obtain accurate indicators, it is necessary to follow certain rules.

133 volunteers between 18 and 80 years old participated in the study. Participants were assured their bladders were empty, walked for two minutes and sat for five minutes before their blood pressure was measured. The pressure of each of them was then measured several times with an interval of 30 seconds.

Scientists have found that if the hand with the tonometer was on the knees, the systolic (upper) pressure increases by 3.9 mm cs and the diastolic (lower) pressure increases by 4 mm cs.

The most significant errors in the indicators were observed when the hand hung from the body without support.

The researchers emphasize that for accurate blood pressure measurement, it is necessary to sit in a chair with a straight back and place your hand on the table. At the same time, it is important that the palm rest is not too low.

It should be noted that blood pressure is an important indicator of the health of the cardiovascular system. Its periodic monitoring allows problems to be detected in a timely manner and the necessary measures to be taken.
