The world of Olympic sailing takes an important step forward with the launch of the Sailing Grand Slam (SGS), an international series which will bring together the most emblematic events of this sport and the regatta which will take place at the headquarters of Los Angeles 2028. The circuit will contribute to respecting the commitments made by World Sailing in its Olympic Vision document. The Majorcan regatta Princess Sofia is one of five people included on the tour.
This ambitious project, developed in close collaboration with World Sailing, will create a global platform to promote the world’s best sailors in the preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. World Sailing (the International Sailing Federation) supports the creation of the Sailing Grand Slam as a first step towards the rebirth of the World Cup Series, included among the commitments set out in the international body’s Olympic Vision.
The Sailing Grand Slam will include the following events:
- HRH Princess Sofia Trophy – Majorca, Spain
- French Olympic Week – Hyères, France
- Dutch Water Week – Almere, Netherlands
- Kieler Woche – Kiel, Germany
- Long Beach Olympic Class Regatta- Long Beach, United States.
All five regattas share the ambitions detailed in the World Sailing Olympic Vision document, which sets out the International Federation’s plans for strengthen the contribution of sailing to the Olympic Movement. Together, the Regattas are working to implement a number of tools in the current Olympic cycle, such as a centralized website for information and updates, a standardized registration platform and documentation on events, including a Race announcement and common sailing instructionsa comprehensive communications strategy aimed at raising the global profile of Olympic sailing and the Sustainable Development Goals that promote responsible practices at all events.
Through this collaboration, the series is committed to establishing a training program for race officials, work more closely with World Sailing and the Olympic classes to introduce the best technological solutions for sailors and the future of race management, and provide a platform for World Sailing and the Olympic classes to test new formats and equipment.
