The Civil Guard is searching for a man suspected of killing a 76-year-old brother and attacking three other people at the monastery of Santo Espíritu del Monte, in the Valencian town of Gilet. The deceased was injured in the head and died shortly after the attack at the Valencia clinical hospital, after being treated by SAMU doctors.
The events occurred this Saturday, around ten o’clock in the morning. The rest of the victims, aged 57, 66 and 95, were transferred to Sagunto Hospital, due to trauma or contusions, to basic resuscitation units, as confirmed by the Information Center and emergency coordination (CICU).
In a statement, the provincial of the Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception, Fray Joaquín Zurera Ribó, explained that “a disturbed person” entered the convent and “attacked the brothers who were in their room, with the intention – as they heard him – to kill the brothers.
“With the exception of Brother Antonio Ivars Solbes, who was in the garden, and Brother Federico Allara Aragó, who was in the chaplaincy celebrating mass, the rest of the brothers were violently attacked,” he said. .
“We unequivocally condemn this aggression and we associate ourselves with the suffering of our brothers, with the wounds in the body and the pain in the soul for what they experienced, which, without a doubt, leaves a deep mark in people. We also ask that the aggressor be aware of the damage and be able to rectify behavior that is not at all typical of the human condition,” the provincial’s letter states.
“This event also asks all of us, brothers, to be more attentive to prevent the entry into our fraternities of people likely to cause damage of any kind, and thus to know how to take care of each other,” says- he.
