This is the objective presented on Thursday by the president of the regional government of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, who recommended “tripling, if necessary”, the contribution to International cheese fair “Fromago Cheese Experience” to “consolidate” it as the “most important” event in the global panorama of this product.
“In this regard, I believe that we must all contribute to guaranteeing the future of Fromago and consolidating it as it already is: the most important cheese fair in Spain and one of the best in the world,” he stressed. “And that is because we have excellent producers, because there is an excellent product, because magnificent exhibitors come from all corners of Spain and the world. We have the involvement of all the institutions of Zamora and all those who can contribute something and we also have the hope of taking the success of Zamora very far,” he added.
In addition, Fernández Mañueco highlighted the “support” for the agri-food industry and recalled that, during the current legislature, “they have been resolved 109 million euros, 16 of which are for industries in the province of Zamora“We continue to collaborate with the agri-food industry because there is a call that is open and I encourage everyone to participate. We must continue to support livestock farmers. “We have been at their side in times of drought, we have subsidized veterinary costs, also facilitating the sanitation of livestock and defending their interests in the common agricultural policy.”
Demographic anchoring
Cheese is thus discovered as a flagship product. “It is an essential element of the powerful agri-food industry that we have in Castile and León, where Dairy sector exceeds 2,000 million euros in turnover and generates more than 6,000 jobs. They constitute a very powerful demographic anchor in rural areas. He also stressed that the Commission supports “more than ever” cooperation and the integration of young people in the rural world, in the agricultural and livestock sector. “This month we will begin to dictate the resolutions of concession for the modernization of agricultural holdings and also for the integration of young people,” he signed.
The President of the Commission made these statements at the Palace of the Incarnation, headquarters of the Provincial Council of Zamora, during the opening ceremony of the II International Cheese Fair “Fromago Cheese Experience”, which will be held until next Sunday in the capital Zamora and in which 330 exhibitors from half a dozen countries are participating, who will present 1,200 types of cheese along a two-kilometre route through the centre of the capital of Zamora.
The opening ceremony also included speeches by the president of the Provincial Council of Zamora, Javier Faundez and the mayor of Zamora, Francisco Guarido.
