Mapfre reduces the carbon footprint of its business travel by 58%

As part of the European Mobility Week, which will run until September 22, Mapfre arreaffirmed its commitment to healthy, safe and sustainable mobilitya challenge that is part of the objective of achieving a 30% reduction (compared to 2022) in the carbon footprint (TonCO2e).

The company has reduced its global carbon emissions by 25% (compared to 2019) by 2023, far exceeding the 7.5% target set for the yearThis reduction is the result of the group’s commitment to moving towards cleaner and smarter solutions that promote the decarbonization of the economy.

More sustainable travel

Thanks to the mobility policy, included in the 2021-2030 Environmental Footprint Plan, the insurance company has contributed to the carbon footprint of business travel has been reduced.

Concretely, this reduction amounts to 58% (compared to 2019), thanks to promote less polluting means of transport and implement other types of measures, such as minimizing business travel and promoting virtual meetings.

Other Mapfre initiatives aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of daily office mobility also stand out, such as shuttles that connect certain locations to central points of the city and to public transportbicycle parking, rental electric vehicles and charging stations for ECO vehicles, among others.

Mobility of the future

In this sense, Mapfre aims to become a carbon neutral company by 2030, a commitment that includes: minimize the environmental impact of mobility.

To this end, the entity has set among its objectives the progressive increase of hybrid models with remote workas well as reducing emissions associated with business air travel, by prioritising other more sustainable forms of transport, such as high-speed trains.

100% ECO fleet

Regarding direct operation, the Mapfre Group aims to achieve 100% ECO fleet by 2030 by renewing the fleet of cars with more efficient engines.

As part of its roadmap, 100% of the vehicles allocated to management teams in Spain already have the ECO rankingLikewise, last year, 28 hybrid cranes and 42 100% electric workshop vehicles were part of the supplier network in Spain.

In this regard, he received the 2023 prize for Best project aimed at sustainable mobility at the eMobility Expo World Congress 2023 for their project Second lifewhich allows recover batteries from electric vehicles damaged and give them a second life cycle as energy storage systems.

Parts recovery

The sustainability-focused initiative of CESVIrecambios, the Authorized Treatment Center (CAT) of end-of-life vehicles CESVIMAP, a facility that has decontaminated 52,500 vehicles since its creation in 2004.

At the time of its birth, the facilities had 24,000 square meters of land and 7,000 square meters of construction and met the legal requirements for decontamination. At that time, the center became “the first installation at European level with such a degree of automation” for this activity.

Thanks to its work, CESVIrecambios has invested more than 1.5 million spare partsgiving them a second life and avoiding having to manufacture new parts.
