In Germany, an emergency situation occurred at the Hamburg train station: the police were forced to close several tracks due to suspected infection with the dangerous Marburg virus. According to preliminary data, the cause was a medical student from Rwanda who arrived in the country on a direct flight from Africa. Before arriving in Germany, he would have been in contact with a patient infected with the Marburg virus and would have participated in his treatment.
The student took an ICE train with his girlfriend in Frankfurt am Main bound for Hamburg. During the trip he developed flu-like symptoms, which caused concern. For security reasons, authorities immediately blocked tracks 7 and 8 at the station and passengers were asked to leave the platforms.
The Marburg virus, which belongs to the same family as the Ebola virus, is extremely dangerous. Its mortality rate varies from 24% to 90%, depending on the outbreak and the quality of medical care. The infection causes hemorrhagic fever accompanied by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and heavy bleeding, making it one of the deadliest viruses.
Now the German authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the infection and conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
