Marion Maréchal launches her party, but only reaps the indifference of the National Rally

Marion Maréchal felt, not without reason, mistreated by Reconquête!, Eric Zemmour’s party. Will the way she is received by her former in-laws make her regret her former partners? Marion Maréchal, who saved the National Rally (RN) during its European campaign and supported its legislative candidates, announces that she is creating a party to bring Marine Le Pen to the Elysée in 2027. But she only gets a concert in exchange for silences, where it will be difficult to read anything other than contempt. There was no one in the RN, not even his aunt, to publicly wish him good luck. And not only because the announcement was made on Monday, October 7, the anniversary of the massacres committed by Hamas in Israel, guaranteeing a very limited response.

Born under these unfortunate auspices, the Identity-Libertés party is in reality nothing more than the new name of the Conservative Movement, a micro-party born opposition to equal marriage and aimed at a conservative Catholic electorate hostile to immigration. Marion Maréchal will add a dimension of economic liberalism, to form a whole that resembles Reconquête!, without Eric Zemmour or his first supporters. “I want to carry the voice of a civilizational right that is at the same time anti-woke, anti-welfare and anti-tax extortion, breaking with “mental socialism”,” she said to Figaro. And, therefore, the conservative movement changes its president: MEP Laurence Trochu gives way to the granddaughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen.

The strength of the party lies in the incarnation of Marion Maréchal, whose image does not seem to suffer partisan comings and goings, and in its seven parliamentarians, that is, seven times more than Reconquista! : four European deputies (in addition to Maréchal and Trochu, Nicolas Bay and Guillaume Peltier), together with the president of the Italian Council, Giorgia Meloni, and three deputies to the National Assembly (Thibaut Monnier, Drôme; Eddy Casterman, Aisne; Anne Sicard, Val-d’Oise), in the RN group. His followers I also want to believe that the former favorite of the extreme right can embody a current of thought between conservatism and reaction, a practicing Catholic, a bourgeoisie from the west of France with which neither the RN nor Eric Ciotti speak.

She imagines herself as an ally of the RN.

However, obstacles abound. Its movement is a shell to be structured. Its political segment is still full of Reconquête!, which no longer has the vigor of yesteryear but retains, around Eric Zemmour and his partner, the European deputy Sarah Knafo, a media and digital attack force. Above all, it gives the impression of a gap between the place that Marion Maréchal imagines for herself alongside the RN and the one that is really hers. In her first interviews, she describes herself as an ally of the RN, one of the three masts of a “trimaran” called the “union of rights”, of which Marine Le Pen would be the strongest incarnation.
