The plenary session of the Marratxí Town Council unanimously approved, at the request of Més, an initiative to promote the improvement of road safety in the centre of Sa Cabaneta. The proposal defended by the eco-sovereignists arose from the tragic accident that cost the life of a resident of the centre while she was crossing a pedestrian crossing.
The specific initiative includes an improvement in ambient lighting, the implementation of measures that require deceleration and speed reduction near the Sant Marçal church square, as well as the study of the feasibility of installing a traffic light with a push button so that pedestrians can cross more safely.
The Town Hall is also committed to installing an educational radar on the n’Olesa road to raise awareness among motorists entering the town.
For Més per Marratxí spokesperson Aina Amengual, traffic calming measures must be taken through design solutions.
“Pedestrians need safe, comfortable and easy-to-use facilities. “Today, crossing the Sant Marçal pedestrian crossing offers no guarantees,” he added.
