Mass strike at the world’s largest aircraft manufacturing company: production halted

Boeing’s workers’ union launched a massive strike, halting all aircraft production. This happened after negotiations between the company’s management and union leaders failed.

Chaos reigned at the world’s largest aircraft manufacturing plant. The strike began shortly after midnight (Northwest US time) and led to the shutdown of Boeing’s production lines. The strike began after negotiations for a 25% wage increase, which was planned to be implemented over four years, failed.

Thousands of technicians responsible for assembling Boeing 737, 767 and 777 aircraft walked off the job. The union’s proposal was rejected, leading to a strike. The union said 94 percent of its members voted against the contract proposal and 96 percent supported the strike call.

The strike adds to Boeing’s financial problems, which were already worsening after the crash of Alaska Airlines’ 737 MAX in January. During the flight, the plane’s door broke.

The prolonged strike is expected to disrupt the aircraft supply chain and worsen the shortage of planes for airlines. Boeing shares fell 4% at the opening bell.

This is not Boeing’s first attack. A previous attempt to reach a labor agreement in 2008 resulted in a 57-day strike that cost the company an estimated $100 million a day.

Let us recall that in Iran a Boeing 737 aircraft was sucked into its engine.
