Hundreds of residents came out this Tuesday afternoon to receive King Felipe VI and King Letizia in Letur (Albacete) during their tour of the municipalities affected by DANA on October 29. The monarchs have presented his condolences to the population for the six residents who died in the floods which devastated the historic center of the town.
The journey of the Kings began with a visit to the “Notre-Dame de l’Assomption” school, where they were received by the students and teachers of the center which became the command post of the entire rescue operation. during the critical days that followed. the flood
Then, the royal couple walked along Avenida de la Guardia Civil, the main street of the city, while receiving applause and cheers from the residents of this municipality of Albacete. The Kings took the opportunity to extend their condolences to the families who lost a loved one last October and conveyed messages of support to residents who are still waiting to recover their demolished houses.
The delegation was accompanied by the Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez; the president of Castile-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; the mayor of Letur, Sergio Marín; the government delegate in Castile-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, and the president of the Provincial Delegation of Albacete, Santi Cabañero.
At the end of the visit, which lasted less than an hour, Felipe VI and Letizia entered the ground zero of collapseswhere the force of the flood destroyed several buildings and left the main street blocked. There, they supervised the work of the reconstruction teams who have been working since the first day of the disaster and were able to see for themselves the scale of the tragedy. From there, they left the city by car, once again surrounded by the applause of locals.
Emiliano García-Page detailed that neighbors especially asked kings and politicians “don’t forget them” due to the amount of work that remains to rebuild Letur. Page highlighted the coordination between different administrations and political parties “from the first minute” to help the municipality and assured that these efforts “will continue” until the city is completely repaired.
