MATHEMATICS is becoming a nightmare: Are the textbooks or the teachers’ teaching methods wrong?

Mathematics has always been a nightmare for students. In each class, almost only one or two students can understand this topic. We often hear parents complain about math. Even after their children enter fifth grade, parents say they don’t understand their homework. Teachers present different arguments in this regard.

Most see the reason for this in the confusion of thematic books. Algebra and geometry, which were previously taught in mathematics, were in separate books, but now all aspects of mathematics are concentrated in a single book. Parents say that the solutions in the books are not explained in simple language or are confusing. It’s hard to expect an 11-year-old to understand some phrases when not even his parents understand them.

But what is the reason why students have difficulty understanding mathematics?

Education expert Elmin Nurizade told Bizim.media that the reason lies in the teachers’ teaching method:

“Unfortunately, difficulties in understanding not only mathematics, but also the humanities have increased in schools. The results of the final exam give reason to say so. Now is the era of technological development. Teachers can teach children with various methods We just use Internet resources to learn these methods. Teachers sometimes say that there are difficult children, they cannot be taught, or we hear excuses like “there are too many students, it is difficult to teach”, regardless of the number of children. teach the given subject.

Furthermore, mathematics has always been presented to children as the “most difficult” subject. This creates fear in them and they think that no matter what they do, they will not be able to understand the program. Furthermore, if we observe, we will see that teachers do not have an individual approach to teaching. If a student does not understand the topic, the teacher does not want to take the time to explain it to him or her. However, the teacher is responsible for the knowledge of each student in a class.”

The expert added that weak basic knowledge can also make mathematics more difficult to understand in higher grades:

“Primary concepts should be taught to children in a more correct way. As for teaching methods, traditional methods are still used in Azerbaijani schools. All over the world, artificial intelligence is used to simplify and activate methods of teaching. In our country, teaching is This is done by showing the solution of one or two examples on the board. The process ends…”
