Matthew Perry’s doctor pleads guilty to illegal distribution of ketamine

One of two doctors who were among five charged in ‘Friends’ actor’s death Matthew Perry for overdose pleaded guilty this Wednesday to one count of illegal distribution of ketamine in a Los Angeles court.

The doctor Marc Chavez could be liable to a penalty of up to 10 years in prisonaccording to CNN. Perry died in October 2023 from the “acute effects” of anesthesia and subsequent drowning in a hot tub, according to an autopsy report from the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as the actor was 54 years old. Police found drugs at the scene of the death, although they ruled out foul play.

Chávez thus formalized his plea agreement with prosecutors during the hearing and the judge set his sentence at April 2, 2025. The doctor is accused of having provided the doctor Salvador Plasenciawho is also charged in connection with Perry’s death and who previously pleaded not guilty, provided ketamine to Perry using a fraudulent prescription, according to court documents.

The two are among five people charged in connection with the actor’s death. Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasaand knowledge of the actor, Eric FlemingChávez was also indicted and cooperated with prosecutors.
