“I need to make a statement because I feel like my voice is being silenced. I get bullshit thrown at me every day. I have been mistreated and abused. My community is screwed. I have been turned into a thought experiment and I’m afraid for my life.” , expressed the former player in one of the videos. This message, which quickly went viral, motivated several NBA players and former players to react with messages of support.
Among the first to speak out is the powerful striker of Miami heat, Kevin lovewho, after watching the video, did not hesitate to ask for help from the public for his friend and former teammate. On social media, Love wrote, “To everyone who spent time with Kyle Singler and whose lives he touched: shower him with the love and support he needs and deserves.” Love also dedicated a direct message to Singler: “I love you, Kyle. Contact me whenever you can.”
Additionally, other former teammates and NBA figures responded with signs of support. At 36, Singler has had a sporting career full of ups and downs. After standing out in the Duke Universitywith which he won the university championship of NCAAmade the leap to professional basketball. In 2011, he joined the Spanish championship with the Lucentum Alicante and shortly after he was signed by Real Madrid, where he won the King’s Cup in 2012.
His performance in Europe took him to the NBA, where he played for the strait Pistons between 2012 and 2015, then for Oklahoma City Thunder until 2018. At the end of his career, he played for ACB teams such as monbus Obradoiro and the Iberostar Tenerife before retiring.
Five years after his retirement, Singler reappears on social media with a message full of pain and confusion. “I feel like there’s a reason for not valuing or respecting myself,” he says in one of these videos, implying that he is going through a major personal and emotional crisis.
