Maya Sandu: “We cannot leave aside the problems of global warming until we solve other crises”

“Moldova represents 0.03% of global emissions, but the country is the most vulnerable in Europe.”

According to “Report”, this was stated by Moldovan President Maya Sandu during her speech at the COP29 Leaders Summit.

He noted that for Moldova, climate change is not an imaginary threat, but a reality that affects daily life, the economy and, especially, rural communities.

“This underlines the importance of ensuring access as soon as possible to a fair climate finance system that prioritizes vulnerable developing nations and focuses on improving security,” he said.

According to him, Moldova has started the implementation of the national tree planting program and plans to increase forest cover by 5%.

“This is proof of our commitment to a green future. Despite the lack of funds, we continue this work for the sake of the health of the planet and future generations. This is a contribution to better air quality, to biodiversity and the protection of the Earth environment,” said the President of Moldova.

He stressed that the global crisis requires active measures from everyone: “Moldova increases energy efficiency, reduces consumption, uses renewable sources. However, solving the problem of reforestation and decarbonization are major objectives that require resources.

We cannot put aside the problems of global warming until we solve other crises. History will judge us if we do not take action and prevent large areas of the planet from becoming uninhabitable. Our work today will determine the future of the Earth,” he concluded.
