The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazonadmitted that they could have been committed errors “without a doubt” during the management of DANA and has been called to make political decisions starting next Thursday, the day in which he will intervene at his own request in the Valencian Cortes to report to the rest of the political formations.
In an address to the media this Monday during the inauguration visit to the new Torrent-Valencia bus corridor, the head of the Consell did not want to speculate or anticipate possible changes within the Executive, despite the fact that several senior officials are being accused in preparation, and he limited himself to emphasizing that it will be within three days when we will talk about “political questions”.
Regarding his position, after 130,000 people participated last Saturday in a demonstration in Valencia where his immediate resignation was demanded, Mazón expressed that he felt completely “approved“, both for the “responsibility” of the position he occupies and for his own formation, the Popular Party.
Thus, he once again defended the management of DANA which devastated the province of Valencia last Tuesday October 29, which has so far left a toll of 214 dead and 41 missing, according to official figures. “It is not a problem of conscience when everyone did what they could based on the information I received,” he stressed.
Mazón acknowledged his errors, but he did not want to clarify them, asking that all explanations be given next Thursday to the regional parliament. However, his statements increase the pressure on the figure of Salome Pradasthe Minister of Justice and the Interior whose direct responsibility is the management of emergency situations that may arise in the territory.
“Anything that has nothing to do with reconstruction is not a priority. I am neither worried nor concerned about my personal political position. The time will come to accept mistakes with total humility,” he maintained. “Maybe we should have paid more attention to the Rambla de Poyo and to have had better information, even if it is not the direct responsibility of the Generalitat, and not to focus so much on the Forata dam, which, fortunately, did not break,” said Mazon.
Bottled water and demonstration
At the same time, regarding water consumption, the president influenced the recommendation of the bottled drinkalthough he confirmed that this Monday they established 21 new points in different municipalities where running water can now be used.
Asked about Saturday’s demonstration in Valencia during which his resignation was demanded, he once again affirmed that “understands anger and pain“, but that he will no longer refer to “things that happened that everyone will see” about the riots and vandalism that followed, and ended up sending encouragement to the 31 injured police officers.
