The president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazonannounced a change “in the structure” of his government after the DANA crisis and amid criticism of his management. For the first time, the head of the Regional Executive acknowledged that “errors” could have occurred and regretted “not having paid more attention to the Rambla del Poyo, which was not of his responsibility”.
Mazón assured that the Valencian Government has devoted “100% of its time” to trying to solve citizens’ problems instead of giving explanations. “From Thursday we will start talking about political issues, which, in my opinion, is not people’s priority,” he stressed. With this objective, Mazón assured that they were working “to adapt the entire structure of the Government of the Generalitat Valenciana to the reconstruction work.” “It is constant work and in terms of decisions and explanations that, as you will see, we never stop giving,” he added.
However, the Valencian president admitted to the press that the authorities will have to assume their responsibilities “as soon as possible”. The Valencian president pointed the finger at “all administrations” and invited them to review actions with DANA. “I think we have to assume that mistakes may have been made, without a doubt, we have to do it with humility,” he continued.
“During these days we have reviewed what happened in those days, with all the warnings that were given, until this final alert, based on the alerts that were issued regarding the Forata dam that the Spanish government was moving,” recalled the head of the Autonomous Executive.
On the other hand, he assured that the Emergency Coordination Center (CECOPI) was a “validly constituted committee”. Furthermore, he added that “the president of the Generalitat is not a member of CECOPI” and that its members “do not need a political presence.”
Mazón insisted that “everyone is obliged to review the mistakes that could be made.” “I think there is one thing that is clear among all, and that is not having paid more attention to the Rambla de Poyo, not having had more information that does not fall under the strict responsibility of the Generalitat and to be more aware of the Forata dam which Fortunately, this is not the case “It has been broken, it is part of all the behaviors that must be reviewed”, underlined the leader of the PP .
“Valencia deserves serious explanations”
Despite this, he admitted that “perhaps, in a calm and serene way, the Valencians also deserve serious explanations without the disinformation that exists these days, well organized and avoiding hoaxes.”
The Valencian president asked to carry out “a personal reflection” on what he considered to be “shocking insinuations” and even, according to Mazón, “even unpleasant”. “I did not participate in my personal defense,” admitted the head of autonomy, adding that “I should still devote more time to going out to deny the hoaxes, insinuations or speculations that do not contribute in any way to the real work. “We will start talking about policy and measures from Thursday,” he said.
Finally, the Valencian leader said that he felt “supported by the responsibility” that he carries and also by his party: “But, in any case, these are political reflections that we must talk about from Thursday”, he pointed out. And he said, “I don’t care about personal political position.”
