The government of Carlos Mazón appointed this Tuesday the lieutenant general Francisco Gan Pampols as vice president for Valencia’s recovery after DANA.
Gan Pampols led the reconstruction of Afghanistan and served as director of the Armed Forces Intelligence Center.
A military graduate in political science and sociology, he also has a diploma in the troops of Monterrey and General Staff and is a specialist in battle tanks. Born in Figueres in 1958, he headed the Land High Availability Headquarters until 2020. (CGTAD), a position that fills the void left by the ccaptain general of Valencia.
Gan Pampols is also a renowned mountaineer. He was the third man to finish three polar expeditions: Geographic South Pole (Antarctica), Lapland-North Cape Crossing (Finland and Norway) and Geographic North Pole (departure from the coasts of Siberia – Russia). He has also climbed Everest, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro and Nanga Parbat.
He was also Chief of NATO Simulation Instructors between 2000 and 2001 and Leader of the Qala-e Naw Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan in 2007.
In December 2009, he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed director of the General Military Academy. In 2013, he left this position after being appointed director of the Armed Forces Intelligence Center (CIFAS).
In May 2017, he was appointed Director of the High Availability Land Headquarters based in Valencia and three years later. He left office in January 2020 and was replaced by Fernando García-Vaquero Pradal.
