The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazonannounced this Friday that the Autonomous Administration has already resolved 10,000 requests for basic aid for families affected by DANA, which totals 60 million euros deposited in their accounts.
After visiting several rural roads in Utiel affected by DANA barely a month ago, the president indicated in statements to the media that “only today” they resolved 6,385 new aids intended for affected families.
This figure, added to the almost 4,000 requests for aid resolved in recent days, represents 10,000 aid to as many families, and 60 million euros paid directly into their accounts, “with practically no bureaucracy”, he said. The president stressed that these data mean that the Generalitat is “the first administration that is already making payments to be able to begin to see something on the way, to be able to begin a certain direct recovery.”
Mazón said this Friday that Valencians affected by the dana and who receive aid from the central government “will have to return almost 900 million euros” in interest. During a visit to the municipality of Utiel, Mazón asked the government for more “and better” aid.
He recalled that the first estimates made by the Consell indicate that around 31 billion euros will be needed to rebuild the entire affected area but that, “so far the Government has responded with 14,000 million, of which almost half are credits to be returned. with interest.
The government lends but with interest
“It was recently calculated that the interest that the people of Valencia will have to return is around 900 million euros and, honestly, I am very convinced that the people concerned do not deserve to have to return this interest,” he said. added.
It is for this reason that he “demanded, asked, proposed”, that “it is completely logical that these 900 million that they want to collect from the Valencians become direct aid”. “It doesn’t seem moral to me,” he added. “The Generalitat is also considering, for those who need it, credits but without interest. Therefore, it is not that I am saying that there is no aid, what I am saying is that it seems insufficient to me and that it seems to me immoral that this aid is accompanied by interests,” the president underlined.
Finally, Mazón admitted that it is never the time for these political discussions but that he “tries to respond when we say something that does not conform to reality” because what he does not like ” it’s when hoaxes are established or false claims consolidate.” “Truths with political intentions which, I believe, do not correspond to the current times.
“I was one of those who recognized errors, who spoke of self-criticism, but I did not hear the president of the government recognize any error. I don’t care, I’ll happily acknowledge a new one if necessary, but this political climate isn’t helping at all. “I try to do my part every day, and I will also try to improve myself by recognizing the victims,” he added. On the other hand, the president estimated that “more personnel are needed to deal with the current emergency”, which “is that of private garages”.
“The Generalitat assumed the initial and secondary removal of the cars in collaboration with the Provincial Deputation of Valencia. There is no precedent in Spain for this effort. In addition, 250,000 tons of goods were collected in 15 days, while the entire city of Valencia generates 12,000 tons in a year,” he concluded.
